Historic urban quarters, with their strong sense of place, serve as tangible links to the past. However, globalization poses a threat to the identity of these places, particularly for historic quarters like Glodok Chinatown in Jakarta. This vibrant Chinatown, rich in local culture and economy, faces the erosion of its identity due to the influx of modern elements, potentially diminishing the sense of belonging among the younger generation. To address this issue, a space is needed that enhances Glodok's identity as a Chinatown while adapting to the characteristics of contemporary users without compromising its environmental and historical context. This can be achieved by creating an interactive cultural education space, a space for appreciating and exhibiting cultural activities, and a commercial recreation space that fosters a unique shopping experience within the Chinatown. The project proposes a cultural center designed using the creative placemaking approach. This approach emphasizes the role of creativity and economic development in creating places that respond to users, buildings, and their surroundings. By implementing creative placemaking principles, the project aims to revitalize Glodok Chinatown’s identity in a contextual manner, fostering a stronger sense of ownership among the younger generation towards the local culture. text
