However, this shift has not been accompanied by proper archiving practices, as contents produced are often intended for over-the-top (OTT) platforms dan its numbers are overwhelming archivist's workload. Additionally, Sinematek Indonesia, as Indonesia's primary film archive, has fallen behind due to funding problems and limited public presence. Therefore, there’s a need for a better film archiving facility to sustain Indonesia’s cinema heritage in this everchanging technological development. This project addresses these issues by revitalizing Sinematek Indonesia into an improved film archive and centre, emphasizing the importance of film preservation and facilitating public activities. To achieve this, three primary functions are created that shape the project's concept and zoning: educational, commercial, and archival functions. The educational function is realized through a concept of narrative cinematic architecture, designed to narrate the ins and out of Sinematek through narrative stages within the site. These stages—introduction, appreciation, and participation stages—allow visitors to engage with Sinematek Indonesia progressively. The commercial function expands its existing functions to include amenities such as restaurant, community spaces, and commercial zones aimed at sustaining future funding. The archival function focuses on improving archival conditions to meet International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) standards. The revitalization results in three masses separated by these functions. Their arrangement is based on narrative stages. The first mass, located at the front of the site, serves as the introduction to Sinematek. This three-story building is used as the educational function, housing a museum, exhibition area, and multi-function room. The second mass, located at back corner of the site, serves as appreciation and participation stage through its facilities and archive functions. This five-story building includes a cinema, library, archive storage, community offices, and workshops. The third mass, adopts a permeable and public-centered design concept instead due to its location on the site’s edge. It has commercial functions such as shops and restaurant, with pedestrian pathways connected to the nearby Plaza Festival to attract more visitors. Overall, this project seeks to transform Sinematek Indonesia into a dynamic hub that not only preserves cinematic heritage but also engages the public through educational initiatives and commercial possibility, ensuring its sustainability and cultural relevance. text
