INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/81444 Language is an essential means of communication for humans as it also contains the identity and culture of its speakers, making it an integral part of their intangible cultural heritage. As of 2023, Ethnologue has recorded that in Indonesia, there are 718 regional languages spread out the country, but unfortunately 14 of them have become extinct, with the remaining 436 languages in endangered condition, 251 languages in safe condition, and 17 as institutional languages. The decline is caused by language shifts and the disconnection of cultural inheritance from parents to children, especially in a megalopolis like Jakarta. Therefore, to preserve regional languages, significant efforts are needed such as this project, the Indonesian Ethnolinguistic Museum. In order to attract the younger generation, this museum utilizes museum digitization with the theory of digital placemaking hence creating an interactive educational institution for a generation who are familiar with technology. This museum is proposed as an initiative taken by Kemendikbudristek and BPPB to be one of the attractions in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), East Jakarta, which has long been a tourist destination that showcases the rich cultural landscape of Indonesia. The museum is designed to accommodate five main functions: exhibition, language research and documentation, education, celebration of language and culture, and socialization of values or cultural exchange. These functions will revive the appreciation of regional languages through various educational and participatory activities. User data analysis resulted in design solutions that include museum digitization, visitor environmental preference, narrative experience, and education. There are three main concepts that are utilized in the design, namely Attractive, Interactive, and Sensitive, in order to provide a novel and thought-provoking experience for visitors. With all things considered, this project is expected to involve the younger generation in the preservation of various regional languages in Indonesia and enrich people's knowledge of its linguistic wealth. text
