Description
Summary:Various things are developing rapidly during the 21st century, including cities and the urban scene, as well as technological developments and the rise of social media. These rapid developments give rise to a fast-paced lifestyle in the urban scene. The difficulties city residents experience while keeping up with a fast-paced lifestyle can cause mental strain, in which this phenomenon is also often referred to as urban stress. Coupled with the presence of technology and social media in city life, the urban stress phenomenon can potentially become severe and cause mental disorders due to malicious use of the technology by individuals with ill intent. This phenomenon may occur due to lack the education and media literacy, hindering users from engaging in technology and social media positively. Recovery from urban stress and an increase in literacy and reading interests can improve the quality of social environment in urban areas and human resources quality. In response to issues of literacy and urban stress, an architectural typology can be created that integrates learning access facilities with green areas. In addition to resolving existing issues, this integration aims to spark public interest and kickstart the formation of regular visitors. In the long term, creating routine is a key to resolving literacy issues and increasing interests in reading while gradually reducing stress levels. This project aims to create functioning spaces that can increase reading interests and literacy in the local community, while reducing the stress level of the users. Through this project, it is hoped that visitors can have a pleasant and relaxing reading experience that motivates them to return regularly, then in the process help foster higher interests in reading. Visitors may also take a short break in the green area provided to reduce visitors' stress levels. In a broader scope and longer term, the aim of this project is to ensure high quality human resources by increasing literacy and productivity. To fulfill these needs, 3 main design issues are raised: library as a place for learning and literacy activities, library as a third place, and biophilic design for stress relief.
