Summary: | Indonesia, as a country rich in natural resources, culture, and abundant art, reflects the heterogeneity of its society. Bandung, one of the cities in Indonesia, is rich in history, culture, and music. Recognized as a Creative City by UNESCO in 2015, Bandung prides itself on various nicknames, including Paris van Java, City of Flowers, and now Creative City. However, amidst its richness, Bandung faces challenges in providing adequate facilities for musicians, especially street musicians, to express their talents and creativity.
The music history of Bandung began in the 1930s as a center for jazz and orchestral music, nurturing famous musicians such as Fariz RM and Broery Pesulima. In the 1970s, Bandung became a hub for rock and pop music in Indonesia, and in the 2000s, music genres in the city continued to flourish with frequent music events such as We The Fest and the Java Jazz Festival.
Despite rapid musical development, musicians in Bandung, particularly street musicians, face limitations in facilities and government support. Kang Priston, a representative of KPJ, stated that many street musicians still lack adequate facilities despite their potential and some achievements in the field. Although the Harry Roesli Music House (RMHR) has provided a venue for street musicians, there remains a need for additional facilities. Various street musician groups, such as the Street Singer Community (KPJ) and the Plago street musician group, voice their desire for more venues and support from authorities.
In response to these challenges, there is a proposal for the construction of a concert hall building with an auditorium that not only provides space for classical music and orchestras but also accommodates street musicians to express their creativity. This building is also expected to serve as an educational and collaborative center for developing street musicians' talents. Acoustic quality is a primary focus in the building's design, while creative spaces must be designed as inclusive and flexible environments to stimulate the creativity and productivity of musicians. Thus, this effort aims to provide a solution that responds to and meets the needs and aspirations of musicians in Bandung to sustain the rich and diverse music scene in the city.
