Description
Summary:TPST Bantargebang, the largest urban landfill in Indonesia, serves the DKI Jakarta area and plays a critical role in waste disposal. Scavengers, who live and work within this area, play an essential role in reducing waste volume by collecting, sorting, and selling recyclable materials to nearby factories. Despite their significant environmental contribution, scavengers face numerous challenges. They reside in inadequate housing conditions, earn minimal income, and often incur debts to middlemen, all while starting scavenging activities from a very young age. The living conditions in scavenger settlements in Bantargebang are far from national and international standards for adequate, safe, and healthy housing. Through the concept of "reclaiming value," it is hoped that a community system will be formed that not only restores the physical conditions of the area, but also creates strong and sustainable social relationships. This project focuses not only on creating a harmonious community in a small scale, but also on restoring the site with positive environmental macro impacts by creating an eco friendly nomadic system. Aligned with the scavengers' way of life, to "go wherever the waste is," this project aims to leave a green footprint wherever they go.
