INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/81811 Historic buildings, as part of cultural heritage, currently serve as a primary driver of urban regeneration. When it is well-maintained, historic buildings can function as the identity of a city and support sustainable development. In Indonesia, Dutch East Indies architecture is one of the most popular architectures found in historic buildings. These buildings often functioned as offices, official residences, churches, banks, cinemas, and educational buildings. The existence of educational buildings highlights the significant role of education in Indonesia’s history and its architectural development. This research is motivated by the numerous educational buildings in various cities in Indonesia that utilize Dutch East Indies architecture, including those in Jalan Jenderal Gatot Subroto in Purwokerto, known as “Schoolstraat” due to the amount of schools found along this corridor. The aim of this research is to describe the typology of educational buildings with Dutch East Indies architecture and to identify the adaptations that have occurred in these buildings for current educational activities. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, analyzing changes in educational buildings with Dutch East Indies architecture through typology theory encompassing three dimensions: function, form, and expression. The results of the study indicate that the current buildings with Dutch East Indies architecture have undergone expansion and modification without altering the original character of the buildings, such as orderliness, symmetry, consistent rhythm, and a formal impression. These changes occur on a small to medium scale, following a pattern of rejuvenation, modification, and expansion. text
