Description
Summary:In the fashion industry, developments occur rapidly, with new trends constantly emerging for consumers to follow. With the frequent changes in trends in modern times, many people are starting to overlook traditional cultures that have existed for centuries, deeming them outdated. If this trend continues, traditional cultures could vanish, which is regrettable as these cultures hold their own intrinsic values and have been preserved through generations. One of Indonesia’s most popular cultural heritages is batik. Although batik originates from Indonesia, there are also types of batik that have been influenced by external cultures, known as coastal batik. One such type is batik Lasem, which has influences from Chinese culture. Currently, batik Lasem is still used as part of traditional wedding ceremonies in coastal communities, but its development in the fashion industry remains limited. Therefore, there is a need for new development and innovation to rekindle interest in batik Lasem among contemporary society. One commonly used technique in modern fashion products is embroidery, known for its efficiency and intricate detailing. This opens up the potential to develop batik Lasem motifs with contemporary touches. Applying this technique to fashion products can create allure for present-day society, reintroducing batik Lasem to the public eye.
