INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/81953 This research was conducted to design Sawahlunto Islamic Religious Tourism Center as one of the facilities in Sawahlunto Islamic Center which is intended as an icon of religious tourism in Sawahlunto that presents various religious tourism activities and attractions integrated with local elements of Sawahlunto. Sawahlunto was named "Cultural Heritage of the Old City of Ombilin Coal Mine" by UNESCO. In addition, Sawahlunto has a majority Muslim population. However, Sawahlunto does not have adequate religious facilities and religious tourism that attracts tourists. This can be seen from the largest Great Mosque in Sawahlunto with an area of 120 m2 which is used for various Islamic activities in one area and religious tourism which is only in the form of graves of Sheikhs spreading Islam in Sawahlunto. The government of Sawahlunto already has a plan to build Sawahlunto Islamic Centre as a center for Islamic and religious tourism in line with the Minangkabu philosophy of "Adaik Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabulloh." Since Sawahlunto Islamic Centre has not yet been realized, there are data that cannot be obtained due to the absence of detailed plans related to users, facilities, and activities that need further criticism. Thus, to overcome this problem, this design is intended to make Sawahlunto Islamic Center as an icon of religious tourism in Sawahlunto in which there are religious activities and attractions such as Islamic galleries, Hajj manasik, mabit, and major Islamic activities whose design is combined with the local cultural heritage of Sawahlunto and its integration with Minangkabau cultural heritage as a tourist attraction. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach by direct observation of the location, potential, behavior and cultural heritage of Sawahlunto and Minangkabau. In addition, other methods were carried out by reviewing similar projects, namely the Manasik Center Tanggerang and Emaki Lembang Religious Tourism. In addition, the method was carried out by interviewing relevant parties such as the Ministry of Religion and PUPR Sawahlunto as the planner of Sawahlunto Islamic Center and literature study related to Islamic religious tourism. After that, the data is analyzed and programmed so that it becomes the basis for the space program and design concept that can answer the problem. iv This design produces activity program plan, facilities and design concept for Sawahlunto Islamic Religy Toursm Centre which is designed as one of the religious tourism icons in Sawahlunto which accommodates major Islamic events, galleries of Islamic traces in Sawahlunto, as well as mabit classes and Hajj manasik. This design produces design concepts, working drawings, 3-dimensional models, mockups and other visual results resulting from the formulation of the concept of "Traces of Islam in Sawahlunto" by triggering three keywords namely Religy, Local, and Heritage based on the embodiment of religious values, culture and traditions typical of Minangkabau, as well as the utilization of the city icon of Sawahlunto as an old city of cultural heritage by UNESCO by adapting typical Dutch colonial historic buildings as a feature of coal mining practices and coal itself. text |

This research was conducted to design Sawahlunto Islamic Religious Tourism
Center as one of the facilities in Sawahlunto Islamic Center which is intended as
an icon of religious tourism in Sawahlunto that presents various religious tourism
activities and attractions integrated with local elements of Sawahlunto.
Sawahlunto was named "Cultural Heritage of the Old City of Ombilin Coal Mine"
by UNESCO. In addition, Sawahlunto has a majority Muslim population. However,
Sawahlunto does not have adequate religious facilities and religious tourism that
attracts tourists. This can be seen from the largest Great Mosque in Sawahlunto
with an area of 120 m2 which is used for various Islamic activities in one area and
religious tourism which is only in the form of graves of Sheikhs spreading Islam in
Sawahlunto. The government of Sawahlunto already has a plan to build Sawahlunto
Islamic Centre as a center for Islamic and religious tourism in line with the
Minangkabu philosophy of "Adaik Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabulloh."
Since Sawahlunto Islamic Centre has not yet been realized, there are data that
cannot be obtained due to the absence of detailed plans related to users, facilities,
and activities that need further criticism. Thus, to overcome this problem, this
design is intended to make Sawahlunto Islamic Center as an icon of religious
tourism in Sawahlunto in which there are religious activities and attractions such
as Islamic galleries, Hajj manasik, mabit, and major Islamic activities whose
design is combined with the local cultural heritage of Sawahlunto and its
integration with Minangkabau cultural heritage as a tourist attraction.
The research was conducted using a qualitative approach by direct observation of
the location, potential, behavior and cultural heritage of Sawahlunto and
Minangkabau. In addition, other methods were carried out by reviewing similar
projects, namely the Manasik Center Tanggerang and Emaki Lembang Religious
Tourism. In addition, the method was carried out by interviewing relevant parties
such as the Ministry of Religion and PUPR Sawahlunto as the planner of
Sawahlunto Islamic Center and literature study related to Islamic religious
tourism. After that, the data is analyzed and programmed so that it becomes the
basis for the space program and design concept that can answer the problem.
iv
This design produces activity program plan, facilities and design concept for
Sawahlunto Islamic Religy Toursm Centre which is designed as one of the religious
tourism icons in Sawahlunto which accommodates major Islamic events, galleries
of Islamic traces in Sawahlunto, as well as mabit classes and Hajj manasik. This
design produces design concepts, working drawings, 3-dimensional models,
mockups and other visual results resulting from the formulation of the concept of
"Traces of Islam in Sawahlunto" by triggering three keywords namely Religy,
Local, and Heritage based on the embodiment of religious values, culture and
traditions typical of Minangkabau, as well as the utilization of the city icon of
Sawahlunto as an old city of cultural heritage by UNESCO by adapting typical
Dutch colonial historic buildings as a feature of coal mining practices and coal
itself.
