INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/81994 “Lelayu'' is a painting series consisting of six works. This work tries to go beyond stereotypes regarding beauty. In this case, perception can ultimately create a stereotype for assessing something, especially in the context of beauty which often has an overestimation of imperfection - which makes it labeled ugliness - in the context of wilfulness (withering). So the existence of stereotypes about beauty is what drives me in my work. Using the painting method with a symbolic representational art approach as a link to perception, both of which ultimately assume that perception has sensory impressions which will always be directly interpreted. Flowers as an example of a symbolic case of beauty are the benchmark or subject matters in this work. Then the approach to the symbolic form of flowers also ultimately represents beauty itself through the form of wilted flowers. In the process, the flower is composed as a subject on the canvas to form a portrait format that emerges from the still life impression - becoming an assessment of the stereotypical perception that will occur between the appreciator and the work. The symbolism of wilted flowers that appear singularly in the landscape becomes an issue to realize that the representation of beauty is not only present in perfection, but in imperfection as well. Because in the end the wilted flower is presented as important news of death which makes the procession towards wilting/death a beauty. text |
