Designers/architects tend to follow current mosque design trends, namely those originating from the Middle East, which clearly has a different climate profile compared to Indonesia—dry warm climates with a tendency towards dryness, low rainfall, and varying temperatures. Therefore, this research will reveal the differences in design and explain the differences in bioclimatic performance, particularly in the parameters of temperature and energy usage in old and new mosque buildings. It is assumed that there are significant performance differences due to varying climate orientation responses. This research is relatively new in Indonesia because most discussions related to old and new architecture focus more on the issues of changes in styles and architectural decorations of mosque buildings. This study will present a new perspective in the form of a comparative evaluation of building performance in the two categories of buildings with variables that clearly distinguish between them. The findings indicate that, from a representative design, old mosques have more efficient bioclimatic performance compared to the representative design of new mosques. text |
