Description
Summary:PT. X as one of state-owned companies is the only military product producer in Indonesia. Due to changes in business environment, PT. X should adapt to these changes. PT. X has been restructured since 1996 to be self-sustaining company while maintaining its mission as a company that support state defense. The results are several strategic business units including military services. Service and Industry Machine division (Mijas), as commercial product division is expected to increase its production efficiency. One of the efforts is to implement machine maintenance management. The objective is to minimize machine failure so the production cost can be reduced.

Machine maintenance department is responsible for machine availability for each division by carrying-out maintenance management activities. However, its implementation is still not optimal yet. It is indicated by low realization of preventive maintenance (PM) schedule, less experienced technician and low standard machine utility. Current machine utility standard with 60% is not appropriate to Mijas division business competing circumstance. To overcome the problem in increase machine effectiveness at Mijas Department, PT. X must implement machine maintenance method appropriately.

When implementing machine maintenance method, this final project uses Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) approach. The principle of this method is a benchmark of actual machine maintenance management effectiveness with TPM standard in Overall Equipment Effectiveness index. The benchmark result is analyzed with TPM principles that consist of effectiveness, total maintenance system and employee participation. Analysis of these three elements on CNC Sincom E 32 K machine show that the machine (OEE = 77%) is not effective. Although it met company standard but it is not ideal to OEE condition (> 85%).

Management need to make an improvement plan that includes setting the machine effectiveness target gradually that realistic to achieve e.g. 80%. This target should be broken down into operational activities at Machine Maintenance Department. It is recommended to focus on TPM elements (pillar championship) such as competency development, increasing of machine operator roles, increasing of PM realization, Early Equipment Building.
