The urgency for a walkable community drives planning, design, and policies to enhance walking activities. One of the many big city centers that needs to implement this is the Bandung City Square. City planning directives state that the presence of the Bandung City Square is considered a public space for community interaction. The road network in this city center becomes crucial as it connects various heritage destinations to another. This research was conducted to assess the pedestrian-friendly network of Bandung City Square using Urban Network Analysis (UNA). The research approach employed is exploratory and quantitative, utilizing data gathered from observation, literature review, and precedent studies. This data is then used to formulate the criteria and variables needed in the UNA simulation. The simulation results are then compared with the existing conditions to identify design components that can be improved. The research results show that the distribution of pedestrian-friendly areas in Bandung City Square is not evenly distributed. Therefore, it is hoped that the proposed design can help create an environment that enhances the quality of life with more pedestrian-friendly areas. text |

Walkability was essential before motorized transportation was invented. However,
changes in urban planning have shifted this mode, causing environmental issues
such as health decline, social inequality, and increased greenhouse gas emissions.
The urgency for a walkable community drives planning, design, and policies to
enhance walking activities. One of the many big city centers that needs to implement
this is the Bandung City Square. City planning directives state that the presence of
the Bandung City Square is considered a public space for community interaction.
The road network in this city center becomes crucial as it connects various heritage
destinations to another.
This research was conducted to assess the pedestrian-friendly network of Bandung
City Square using Urban Network Analysis (UNA). The research approach
employed is exploratory and quantitative, utilizing data gathered from observation,
literature review, and precedent studies. This data is then used to formulate the
criteria and variables needed in the UNA simulation. The simulation results are
then compared with the existing conditions to identify design components that can
be improved. The research results show that the distribution of pedestrian-friendly
areas in Bandung City Square is not evenly distributed. Therefore, it is hoped that
the proposed design can help create an environment that enhances the quality of
life with more pedestrian-friendly areas. |
