Summary: | Non Revenue Water (NRW) is a major issue that must be addressed by the Regional Drinking
Water Company (PDAM) in Indonesia. The NRW rate is considered good if it is below 20%.
However, according to the 2023 BUMD Performance Report, the NRW rate in Indonesia
reached 33.9%. The NRW value is obtained by finding the difference between the amount of
water produced or the system volume and the volume of water consumed by PDAM customers.
To accurately address NRW, accurate data on customer water consumption volume is needed.
Currently, the customer consumption recording system used by PDAM has a high error rate,
primarily due to human error. Water meter readers are tasked with recording approximately
3,000 water meters each month. This high workload increases the likelihood of recording
errors. There are also cases where meter readers cannot access water meters inside houses,
due to locked doors, no one being at home, or even aggressive pets like dogs. After collecting
the data, it is sent to PDAM administrators to be entered into the system for calculating each
customer's water consumption charges. Administrators are also prone to errors, such as data
entry mistakes and data loss. The accuracy of the water meter also affects NRW; the higher the
meter accuracy, the more precise the customer water volume. Therefore, it is proposed to
develop an electric water meter device that can automatically send data with an accuracy at
least equal to the mechanical water meters currently commonly used by PDAM. This paper
focuses on the results of the design and implementation of the communication and website
interface. The chosen communication method uses LoRaWAN technology by leveraging
services from Antares Telkom. The final results meet all specifications but still have weaknesses
in terms of data transmission timeliness and scalability. |
