To address these challenges, the utilization of Internet of Things (IoT) technology can be an effective solution. One application of IoT technology that can be optimized is the development of a network gateway that can enhance the security and efficiency of data transmission between IoT devices, known as edge devices, and servers. In this study, the design and implementation of a network gateway based on socket programming were carried out to connect edge devices with servers in the aquaculture sector. This network gateway functions as a data collector from several edge devices and sends the data to a server located outside the local network. This study examines several compression and encryption algorithms to find the most efficient and secure combination. The compression algorithms considered include GZIP and ZLIB, while the encryption algorithms include symmetric encryption AES. Testing was conducted to compare data size and transmission duration for various combinations of these algorithms. The test results show that the combination of ZLIB and AES provides the best performance in terms of data size efficiency and transmission duration. The implementation of this network gateway is expected to improve operational efficiency in the aquaculture sector by reducing data transmission time and cost, as well as ensuring data security during the transmission process. text |

Indonesia is the largest archipelago country in the world, with a long coastline
and vast seas. The Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) agreement makes Indonesia
one of the countries with significant fisheries resource potential. However, the
management and utilization of these fisheries resources still face various
challenges, one of which is the lack of adequate surveillance technology.
To address these challenges, the utilization of Internet of Things (IoT) technology
can be an effective solution. One application of IoT technology that can be
optimized is the development of a network gateway that can enhance the security
and efficiency of data transmission between IoT devices, known as edge devices,
and servers. In this study, the design and implementation of a network gateway
based on socket programming were carried out to connect edge devices with
servers in the aquaculture sector. This network gateway functions as a data
collector from several edge devices and sends the data to a server located outside
the local network.
This study examines several compression and encryption algorithms to find the
most efficient and secure combination. The compression algorithms considered
include GZIP and ZLIB, while the encryption algorithms include symmetric
encryption AES. Testing was conducted to compare data size and transmission
duration for various combinations of these algorithms. The test results show that
the combination of ZLIB and AES provides the best performance in terms of data
size efficiency and transmission duration. The implementation of this network
gateway is expected to improve operational efficiency in the aquaculture sector by
reducing data transmission time and cost, as well as ensuring data security during
the transmission process. |
