Description
Summary:This study explores the importance of history in understanding and preserving the identity of a civilization, focusing on the Minangkabau community in West Sumatra. The Tambo, as a source of oral history, demonstrates how the cultural heritage and traditions of the Minangkabau can remain relevant despite being isolated from traditional dating methods. This discussion highlights the challenges and potential of ceramics as a tool for maintaining and revitalizing the historical and cultural heritage of the Minangkabau in the contemporary era by adapting elements of the stories in the Tambo into visual forms. It takes the story of the origin of the name Minangkabau and adapts it into a decorative technique on serving plates. The exploration is conducted based on literature data and interviews with the owners of Padang restaurants, which, after the analysis stage, show that visual explorations of the stories in the Tambo can be realized into ceramic products as serving plates.
