Description
Summary:Sleep is important for human health because the body and brain recover and process important information; Insomnia is a common sleep disorder, characterized by frequent awakenings at night and difficulty falling back asleep; Conventional treatment with sedative hypnotics can be used to treat insomnia, but they could cause side effects, tolerance and dependence; Therefore, this study aims to test the hypnotic and sedative effects of basil leaf extract; Basil leaf extract was obtained using the maceration method with a ???ethanol solvent; Evaluation of the hypnotic effect involved measuring the latency, duration, and efficiency of sleep, as well as the dorsal temperature of the mice, which were induced to sleep with ?mg diazepam?kg BW; The results showed that the addition of ethanol extract of basil leaves at doses of ???, ???, ???mg?kg BW after induction with diazepam accelerated sleep latency, lengthen sleep duration, increased sleep efficiency, and reduced the dorsal temperature of mice; The ethanol extract of basil at a dose of ???and ???mg?kg BW showed the shortest sleep latency ??;?minutes ?????;??and ?;?minutes ?????;???, the ethanol extract of basil at a dose of ???mg?kg BW showed the longest sleep duration ????;?minutes ?????;???and basil ethanol extract at a dose of ???mg?kg BW showed the greatest sleep efficiency ???;????????;????; In testing the sedative effect, the ethanol extract of basil leaves at a dose of ???mg?kg BW showed the most potent effect in reducing the response to stimulus and ptosis; The ethanol extract of basil leaves at ???mg?kg BW had significantly different sedation scale compared to the vehicle ?CMC? Na?; In conclusion, the ethanol extract of basil leaves at ???mg?kg BW showed the most potent sedative effect, while all extract treatment produced escalating hypnotic effect, after induction with ?mg?kg BW diazepam;
