Songke Manggarai is known for its plain weaving technique and additional weft (songket) that produces colorful geometric motifs with the basic color of black cloth. In its development, there are various innovations in color, material, and products created from Songke Manggarai. However, the development of Songke Manggarai designs and motifs is still stuck to the old motifs because it is hampered by the concern of changing the philosophical value of traditional motifs. Some efforts have been made to train the creativity of artisans to create new motifs, but have not been successful on a sustainable basis. This emphasizes the importance of a design approach that suits the potential of Manggarai weaving craftsmen as well as maintaining the uniqueness and philosophical value of traditional motifs. This research aims to develop a Songke Manggarai motif design inspired by the Roko Molas Poco traditional ceremony which contains values of respect for women and the environment. With this approach, it is expected to awaken the spirit of exploration and innovation of weaving craftsmen, reintroduce Songke Manggarai, as well as the cultural and philosophical values of the Roko Molas Poco Traditional Ceremony through Songke Manggarai. text |
