Description
Summary:Innovation in work requires creativity, including updating techniques and ideas in craft. Creativity can take the form of updating techniques and ideas raised in the work. Ceramic crafts, in the manufacturing process, generally go through the formation and decoration stages. One decoration technique that has the potential to be developed is using slips. Innovation can also be done by exploring new materials and techniques, such as using stencil molds for ceramic decorations made by laser cutting from acrylic material. This research takes the theme of batik motifs as inspiration for stencil decoration on ceramics. Batik, as an important Indonesian cultural heritage, was initially only used within Javanese royal circles, reserved for the king, his family and courtiers. Over time, batik craftsmen from the palace returned to their hometowns and preserved the art of batik, making it accessible to the general public, especially among the Javanese people who began to wear it in various traditional celebrations. Batik motifs chosen for certain traditions are even considered symbols of prayer and hope. From the selection of batik motifs in the Javanese tradition, the idea arose to adapt these motifs into ceramic works of art using stencil decoration techniques. This project aims to design an interior vase decorated with traditional Javanese batik motifs processed through laser cutting technology to create a stencil. The hope is that this work of art can illustrate the meaning and philosophy behind each batik motif which is part of Javanese tradition, reflecting the cycle of human life.
