Description
Summary:Bit plays a crucial role in drilling operations. The bit is located at the end of the drillstring. The performance of the bit depends on the type of formation to be penetrated and the factors present at the time of the drilling operation. These factors include weight on bit (WOB), revolution per minute (RPM), and rate of penetration (ROP). One way to optimize bit performance can be by choosing the best combination of WOB and RPM. The drillability test is carried out by selecting several pairs of WOB and RPM. Each pair is tested to perform drilling with a predetermined duration per pair. The purpose of this study is to process, interpret, and analyze the data from the drillability test results in well X to determine the combination of WOB and RPM that can produce optimum ROP. The determination of the best WOB and RPM pair must be done by considering the limitations that exist in the field such as rig capacity, bit availability, and drilling duration limitations. Drillability test is integrated with mud logging operation, therefore there needs to be good coordination between mud loggers, drilling crews and drilling representatives.
