INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/82684 Drug interactions are events wherein the presence of one drug interferes with the pharmacological activity of another drug, potentially harming the patient. The increasing prevalence of multimorbidity conditions in society is related to the use of several drugs, known as polypharmacy, which is one of the significant predictors of potential drug interactions. This study aims to provide information regarding common potential drug interactions in polypharmacy prescriptions, as well as the appropriate management. This study is an observational descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. The sources used in this study were secondary data, specifically polypharmacy prescribing records from the pharmacy service of Ibrahim Adjie Community Health Center during the year 2023. The process involved searching for potential drug interactions through DynaMedex and Stockley’s Drug Interactions literature. From the obtained data, other factors that might influence drug interactions were also analyzed, such as patient age and the number of drugs the patient received. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi Square test and Spearman’s rank correlation. From the study, a total of 1.848 (11%) prescriptions were identified as polypharmacy prescriptions, and among them, 490 prescriptions (26,5%) contained interacting drugs, with 753 potential interactions. The most frequently found drug interaction pair was between Amlodipine and Metformin, with 175 occurrences (23,24%). The results of the study also showed there was a significant association between the number of drugs and the severity of drug interactions (p=0.003) and age range with the severity of drug interactions (p<0.001). Furthermore, a weak correlation was found between the potential drug interactions with the number of drugs (r=0.061) and the patient's age (r=0.287). text |
