Description
Summary:Tourism is one of the labor-intensive industries so it has the potential to contribute to creating jobs and improving the economy in cities. Therefore, tourism development is often used as one of the urban development strategies. One type of cultural tourism that is developing today is the Glodok Chinatown which is located in Glodok Village, Taman Sari District, West Jakarta City, Jakarta Special Capital Region Province. This area is part of Jakarta which is inhabited by a multicultural community of various ethnicities, including Chinese. The Glodok Chinatown Tourism Area has various potentials that require participation from the community in order to be well managed and developed. This study aims to identify the form of community participation practices in the management of the Glodok Chinatown Tourism Area, West Jakarta. To achieve the research objectives, the practice of existing community participation in the Glodok Chinatown Tourism Area was analyzed by applying the theory of participation forms with a qualitative descriptive analysis method. The results of this analysis are then used to identify the form of community participation at each stage in the theory of the form of participation and then explain what stages and forms are still lacking in its implementation. The results of the study show that there is a practice of community participation in the management of the Glodok Chinatown Tourism Area which has a process for the community to be involved in the management. The community can actively participate when they are members of the Glodok Chinatown Tourism Awareness Group. At the stage that tends to carry out gathering activities or meetings, it is still not optimal in involving community participation due to the constraints of community busyness, so it is necessary to update information on activities and community busyness so that the discussion runs effectively.
