URBAN FLOOD MODELING DUE TO SEMIDIURNAL PATTERNS OF RAINFALL (CASE STUDY: JAKARTA FLOODING 1 JANUARY 2020)

Extreme rainfall occurred in Jakarta in early January 2020, setting a new record for the highest rainfall since it was first recorded in 1866. This rainfall formed a semidiurnal pattern with two peaks occurring in the evening and morning, causing flooding in several areas. Therefore, flood modeli...

This rainfall formed a semidiurnal pattern with two peaks occurring in the evening and morning, causing flooding in several areas. Therefore, flood modeling using the 2D HECRAS model was conducted to understand the role of dual-peak rainfall on pluvial flooding in Pondok Kelapa Village, East Jakarta, Indonesia. Flood modeling using HEC-RAS 2D with rainfall data from the Halim Perdanakusuma meteorological station with two rainfall scenarios: (1) rainfall occurring in the evening and morning; and (2) only morning rainfall. The results of this study show that flooding triggered by dual-peak rainfall affects the duration and depth of flooding more significantly compared to flooding triggered by a single peak. This is due to the accumulation of water mass from evening and morning rainfall in the downstream area, which causes a slowdown in flow velocity. As a result, flooding occurs more quickly with a longer duration and greater depth. text
