ANALYSIS OF THE INFLUENCE OF POLYPROPYLENE FIBER ON CONCRETE IN RIGID PAVEMENT (DESIGN THICKNESS STUDY OF RIGID PAVEMENT BASED ON PD T-14-2003 AND MDPJ 2017 METHODS ON THE KAYU AGUNG - PALEMBANG - BETUNG TOLL ROAD)

Roads are essential for community mobility, requiring strong pavements to withstand transportation loads. Concrete, although strong and economical, has weaknesses in tensile stress due to its brittle nature. This study aims to enhance concrete performance by adding polypropylene fibers, expected to improve the mechanical properties of concrete. This research evaluates the impact of polypropylene fiber addition on compressive strength, flexural strength, modulus of elasticity, fatigue resistance, and its effect on pavement thickness design. The fibers used are polypropylene fibers with dosages of 0 kg/m³, 3 kg/m³, and 5 kg/m³. The results indicate that adding polypropylene fibers can increase or decrease the compressive strength, flexural strength, and modulus of elasticity of concrete depending on the fiber dosage and concrete type. The optimum values for compressive and flexural strength vary for each type of concrete. The modulus of elasticity cannot be a significant reference in pavement thickness design as the design methods used do not directly consider this value. The use of fibers also affects fatigue values, although its influence is not significant in pavement thickness design according to the Manual Desain Perkerasan Jalan 2017 and Pd-T-14-2003 methods. The resulting pavement thickness design is 30.5 cm and 24 cm for each type of concrete and fiber dosage based on these two methods. Therefore, the use of polypropylene fibers can enhance certain mechanical properties of concrete but does not have a significant impact on the rigid pavement thickness design. text
