Summary:Bit has an important function in drilling, bit can make drilling action with direct contact to bottomhole by scraping, grinding, gouging, and crushing. Proper bit selection is important due to how fast the formation can be drilled and, in the end, make an impact to project timeline and cost. Drilling parameters that are produced by bit when penetrating the formation such as rate of penetration, rotary speed, and weight on bit (WOB)need to be optimized to make the job more efficient. The selection of weight and rotational speed can be done by drilloff test. This test places a constant number of rotational speeds and adds weight on bit at a certain interval to calculate rate of penetration (ROP). At a fixed rotational speed, the value of the rate of penetration is directly proportional to the weight applied to the bit up to a certain point. At this point, the weight on bit no longer provides optimal drilling efficiency. This study focuses on selecting the optimum drilling bit operation by calculating the data from the drilloff test. The result is the optimal operating values for the penetration rate and weight on bit to be selected.
