STUDY OF CHARACTERIZATION OF EMBALUT COAL, EAST KALIMANTAN AND MUSI RAWAS, SOUTH SUMATRA USING THERMOGRAVIMETRY ANALYSIS-MASS SPECTROMETRY (TGA-MS) METHOD IN A LIMITED O2 ENVIRONMENT TO SUPPORT HILIRIZATION THROUGH GASIFICATION

Coal hilirization has been done to support zero carbon emissions. Gasification is one of the coal hilirization efforts. There are two samples analyzed, sample B1 from Embalut, East Kalimantan and sample B2 from Musi Rawas, South Sumatra. Coal characteristic is quotationed using the thermogravimetric...

Gasification is one of the coal hilirization efforts. There are two samples analyzed, sample B1 from Embalut, East Kalimantan and sample B2 from Musi Rawas, South Sumatra. Coal characteristic is quotationed using the thermogravimetric analysis-mass spectrometry (TGA-MS) method to determine the reactivity of coal in gasification in a limited O2 environment. In thermogravimetric analysis, the prepared sample is heated at a temperature of 50oC to 900oC with a temperature increase of 10 °C/minute using argon (inert) medium and then left for 10 minutes at a temperature of 900°C. The medium is changed to a limited O2 environment, consist of 25% air 75% argon. Mass spectrometry analysis is used for m/z 2, 16, 18, 28, and 44 Both samples rank’s is sub-bituminous A. Sample B1 is more reactive than sample B2. Factors that influence coal reactivity iis ash content. The products produced in the pyrolysis process are H2, CH4, H2O, CO, and CO2, while during the gasification process the products formed are H2, H2O, and CO2. text
