This disaster prompted the government to improve the flood control system in Jakarta. In the process, the government relocated Kampung Waduk Pluit’s residents by building a government-owned flats for the residents of Waduk Pluit Village to fulfill their primary needs, one of which is a residence with more adequate facilities and infrastructure. This study examines the changes in livelihood assets experienced by residents of Kampung Waduk Pluit after experiencing relocation from informal settlements to rusunawa provided by the government in the Muara Baru area, North Jakarta in 2014 and 2015. Using a mixed methods approach, this research investigates how relocation impacts the five main livelihood assets: human capital, social capital, economic capital, natural capital and physical capital. Research shows that although some assets increased significantly after relocation, such as human capital, natural resource capital and physical capital, there was a decline in other asset categories. Recommendations include targeted training initiatives to improve economic assets, and ongoing monitoring to address emerging issues related to physical assets and infrastructure. text |

Relocation or resettlement is the process of moving people who occupies a land
illegally or live in disaster-prone environments to a safer place to live. The
relocation program in Waduk Pluit village was triggered by the major flood
phenomenon in Jakarta in the early 2013. This disaster prompted the government
to improve the flood control system in Jakarta. In the process, the government
relocated Kampung Waduk Pluit’s residents by building a government-owned flats

is a residence with more adequate facilities and infrastructure.
This study examines the changes in livelihood assets experienced by residents of
Kampung Waduk Pluit after experiencing relocation from informal settlements to
rusunawa provided by the government in the Muara Baru area, North Jakarta in
2014 and 2015. Using a mixed methods approach, this research investigates how
relocation impacts the five main livelihood assets: human capital, social capital,
economic capital, natural capital and physical capital. Research shows that
although some assets increased significantly after relocation, such as human
capital, natural resource capital and physical capital, there was a decline in other
asset categories. Recommendations include targeted training initiatives to improve
economic assets, and ongoing monitoring to address emerging issues related to
