The groundwater system of the area of study is a small part of the regional groundwater system in the west coast of Kalimantan Barat.

The aluvial deposit which underlay the area of study contains two layers of aquifer, unconfined aquifer and confined aquifer, with geological material consists of sand. The confining layers inferred as aquitard, with geological material consists of clay.

The occurrence of unconfined aquifer is locally, occurs near the surface, and with approximately 15 meters of maximum thickness. Recharged from the precipitation and Kapuas river flow. Unconfined groundwater flowline is controlled by topography, which is generally flowing westward.

The occurrence of confined aquifer is evenly underlay the area of study, occurs approximately 22 - 63 meters under surface, and with a wedge shape which approximately 20 meters of minimum thickness occurs in southeast side and thickens as the coast in west side is approached. Recharged from the precipitation falls on the outcrop, which is inferred occurs eastward outside the area of study. Confined groundwater flowline is controlled by hydraulic gradient, which is generally flowing with direction to northwest.

Groundwater in confined aquifer has potential for development. As limitation for its potential is the quality issue of the groundwater itself.
text
