One of Indonesia’s nuclear reactor, located in Bandung, is known as Pusat Penelitian dan Pengembangan Teknik Nuklir-Badan Tenaga Atom Nasional. Heat produce from the reactor is wasted through secondary heat exchanger system. The secondary heat exchanger system function failure can cause fission product release (nuclear leakage) which is very dangerous. Therefore, the secondary heat exchanger system should function well which is acquired from maintenance. Secondary heat exchanger system maintenance policy implemented now is preventive maintenance which has been implemented widely and proved to reduce equipment down time. Action made in PM program are reactive to failures. In fact some PM program perform failure correction than failure prevention. Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) has differences in basic understanding compared to PM program. The orientation of RCM is equipment’s function, while PM is to keep the equipment from failures. Included in the reliability centered maintenance method is functional failure development which from it can be found its failure mode. Failure mode can be used to determine failure cause in order to analyze failure effect toward equipment’s performance. The implementation of RCM for secondary heat exchanger system will give the advanteges of: maintaining equipment system functions, identifying spesific failure mode in parts potensial of causing system function failures, making maintenance priority from failure mode, and taking preventive action to keep heat exchanger system in good condition. text |
