ANALYSIS OF SHOCK WAVE AT RAILWAY CROSSINGS DURING BUSY HOURS (CASE STUDY: SUNDA ROAD RAILROAD CROSSINGS, BANDUNG CITY)
Railway level crossings frequently lead to traffic delays, causing congestion and lengthening queues. This research examines the delays and resulting queues at the crossing located on Jalan Sunda in Bandung City. Data collection was conducted at two distinct observation locations. This research examines the delays and resulting queues at the crossing located on Jalan Sunda in Bandung City. Data collection was conducted at two distinct observation locations. At Observation Location 1, the relationship between traffic flow, speed, and density was monitored for 12 hours using CCTV recordings. At Observation Location 2, data collection focused on queue and delay analysis during peak hours (07:00 – 08:00 and 16:00 – 17:00) with the aid of camera recordings. The relationship between traffic flow, speed, and density was developed using Greenshields, Greenberg, and Underwood models, with the Greenshields model ultimately being selected as the best fit model. The model produced a maximum flow value of 1012.4 pcu/hour, a free-flow speed value of 51.1 km/hour, and a jam density value of 79.2 pcu/km. Delay and queue analyses were conducted using the shockwave analysis method. Under closed gate conditions, the maximum delay was 159.7 seconds and the queue length reached 82.3 pcu/lane or 247 pcu during the interval from 16:05:30 to 16:08:23. In contrast, when the crossing gate was open, the average delay was reduced to 2.4 seconds. text |
