Description
Summary:The Indonesian government is making efforts to utilize buton asphalt to replace imported petroleum asphalt. However, a modifier is needed when using pure full extraction asbuton to optimize its use in asphalt mixtures. Bio-oil made from oil palm bunches (BioTKS) which has high potential in Indonesia can be used as a modifier alternative. This research aims to evaluate Asphalt Concrete Wearing Course (AC-WC) asphalt mixtures performance due to the addition of pure extracted buton asphalt and BioTKS bio-oil bioasphalt. This research was carried out by comparing characteristics of asphalt material and Marshall characteristics of AC-WC asphalt mixture using PEN 60/70 asphalt, PEN 60/70 grade petroleum asphalt + 30% pure buton asphalt, and PEN 60/70 grade petroleum asphalt + 30% pure buton asphalt + 6% BioTKS. The addition of BioTKS to extracted buton asphalt improved the basic rheological properties of asphalt in the form of penetration and viscosity. The addition of BioTKS also improves the performance of Marshall chacracteristics of asphalt mixtures by reducing the optimum asphalt content, increasing density, increasing Marshall stability, and increasing residual stability.
