Summary:This proposal contains a plan to develop a tool to measure railway irregularities that may result in disrupted train journeys. First, the types of track irregularities and their impacts are discussed. Next, the methodology of measuring track irregularities and the sensors used to measure the irregularities are discussed. From the various types of irregularities, track width irregularity was selected as the parameter to be measured by the tool to be developed. The tool is designed to be operated either manually or integrated with a lorry. In this proposal stage, the initial design of the rail width test equipment and the selection of suitable sensors have been carried out. The sensor has been tested statically and dynamically and the results show that the sensor's performance is in accordance with its technical specifications. The development activities will continue with tool manufacturing, functional testing and validation in the laboratory and in the field. The results obtained will be used to improve the tool. The development of this tool is expected to support the development of railways in Indonesia.
