Description
Summary:PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) has shifted from open-pit mining at Grasberg to underground mining using the block-caving method, marking the beginning of the underground mining era at PTFI. The change in mining methods and location has led to the extraction of harder ore, which poses increased challenges in processing and separating valuable minerals from gangue minerals. This study will reevaluate operational aspects using the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) methodology. The main focus will be on enhancing mill throughput during the Concentration process. In the Define stage, a SIPOC diagram will be used to review each step. This will provide a clear and comprehensive overview of the entire process. In the Measure stage, descriptive statistics will be used to provide detailed information about the process. Additionally, Pareto analysis helps identify the most critical factors affecting the system. The Fishbone diagram is the primary tool during the Analyze stage to investigate the root causes of process variability, facilitating a deeper understanding. Improvement projects will be developed to address these root causes, with the goal of increasing production capacity to 300 kilotons per day. Achieving these targets is expected to generate direct financial revenue for the company, estimated at 8 million dollars per day.
