The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted performing arts in
Bali, especially direct activities that have seen a drastic decline. This
study examines the pandemic's impact on two main groups in Balinese
performing arts: the Cultural-Centric group, which focuses on
preserving traditional cultural values and communal cooperation, and
the Market-Centric group, which is more oriented towards market
demands and innovation. Through a socio-cultural approach, this
research evaluates the social influence, cultural participation, and
cultural adaptation that occurred during the pandemic.
The Cultural-Centric group faced challenges in maintaining cultural
activities and traditions amidst social restrictions that reduced
community interaction and communal activities. In contrast, the
Market-Centric group found opportunities in digital media to reach a
wider audience. Cultural adaptation during the pandemic demonstrates
that interest in performing arts did not decline but rather shifted to
indirect platforms such as virtual performances. On the other hand, the
dependency of artists on live performances actually increased.
The objective of this design is to create a facility that can accommodate
and integrate both groups in the revitalization of performing arts
affected by the pandemic. By designing a Bali Dance, Music, and
Theater Arts Center that facilitates collaboration between cultural
preservation and modern innovation, it is hoped to enhance cultural
participation and the well-being of Balinese artists, while preserving
cultural values in the face of changing times. |
