Description
Summary:Unsaturated soil mechanics can be regarded as a significant breakthrough in geotechnical engineering. The theoretical framework for unsaturated soil mechanics has been well established and is still currently being developed. However, the theoretical advancements have not been paralleled by the development of its experimental verification. A specialized consolidation apparatus for unsaturated soil was developed and fabricated by Rahardjo and Fredlund (1995; 1996; 2003), and a redesign of this apparatus was conducted by Budiarto (2023) with the means of simplification. The simplified apparatus was developed and fabricated into an unsaturated soil consolidation apparatus that can be utilized for unsaturated consolidation testing on compacted, crushed clay shale samples. In addition to that, a regression method for the Brooks and Corey SWCC model (1964) was also developed into a programming algorithm using the steepest descent method, based on the derivation of the regression equation for the same model by Budiarto (2023).
