This study investigates the effect of thermal aging on the tribological characteristics of carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy composites using the pin-on-disk method. The main objectives are to determine the wear resistance of the composites under different wear mechanisms, dry wear, two body abrasive, and three body abrasive, also to understand the impact of thermal aging at temperatures of 100°C, 150°C, and 200°C over a period of 10 days. The results indicate that thermal aging significantly influences the wear behavior and hardness of the composites. Notably, composites aged at 200°C showed an increase in hardness due to the degradation of the epoxy matrix, which leaves the carbon fibers to dominate the material's properties. The wear resistance varied with temperature, with the highest wear observed at 150°C, indicating a critical point where the matrix begins to degrade significantly. The study highlights the importance of understanding thermal aging effects for applications requiring high mechanical and thermal stability. text |
