STUDY OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MACERAL COMPOSITION AND COAL RANK WITH THE HARDGROVE GRINDABILITY INDEX (HGI) VALUE OF COAL FROM THE BATU AYAU FORMATION, MURUNG RAYA REGION, CENTRAL KALIMANTAN, AND THE TANJUNG FORMATION, SATUI AND MULIA REGIONS, SOUTH KALIMANTAN

Coal plays a crucial role in Indonesia's energy sector as a primary resource. This research aims to explore the grindability characteristics of coal from the Batu Ayau Formation in Murung Raya, Central Kalimantan, and the Tanjung Formation in the Satui and Mulia areas of South Kalimantan. Th...

This research aims to explore the grindability characteristics of coal from the Batu Ayau Formation in Murung Raya, Central Kalimantan, and the Tanjung Formation in the Satui and Mulia areas of South Kalimantan. The main focus is on the Hardgrove Grindability Index (HGI), maceral composition, mineral composition, and the influence of coal rank on grindability. This study uses coal samples taken from six locations in these areas. The research methods include literature review, sample preparation, proximate analysis, ultimate analysis, calorific value analysis, petrographic analysis, and HGI analysis. The results show significant variations in HGI values among the samples, with the highest recorded value exceeding 90. A moderate correlation was found between vitrinite composition and HGI values, indicating that high vitrinite content tends to increase coal grindability. Additionally, mineral composition and coal rank also influence grindability, with higher-ranked coal tending to have higher grindability. This research provides indepth insights into the factors affecting coal grindability in these areas, which can aid in optimizing the use of coal as an industrial fuel. text
