Description
Summary:Fossil fuel oil has been the primary catalyst for economic and technological advancement since the 18th century industrial revolution. Hence, there is a need for renewable fuel derived from biomass.. Bio- fuelis seen as a potential substitute for fossil fuels due to its eco-friendly characteristics. The cracking process is one method that can transform vegetable materials into bio-fuel. The catalytic cracking process is known for its high selectivity in producing bio-fuel. The production process necessitates the use of a catalyst for catalytic cracking. ZSM-5 and Beta zeolite are commonly utilized as catalysts.Zeolite is beneficial due to its thermal stability, selectivity, and highly organized structure. This study will use ZSM-5 catalyst and Beta zeolite to produce bio-fuel from palm oil, examining how the ratio of catalyst in the reactor bed.. The study will be conducted under operational parameters of 500°C, ambient pressure, WHSV of 2.5/hour, 5 grams total catalyst mass, and a 4-hour reaction run. Based on the findings from the experiment, it can be concluded that the ZSM-5 catalyst leads to a higher RON value than the Beta Zeolite catalyst because of the abundance of aromatic compounds in the cracked product. Three configurations were performed when preparing thesetup of the two catalysts: 5-B, B-5, and MIX. Among these three setups, it was determined that the 5-B configuration yielded the most favorable outcome, with RON results and levels of aromatic compounds both falling within the 50% range. Additionally, more research was conducted on the 5-B setup by augmenting the proportion of Beta Zeolite catalyst utilization to ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and 1:2.5.It was discovered that the ratio 1:2 was the most effective among the three ratios for achieving the research goals in product production.
