One of the main contributing factors is intensive land use, where green spaces and natural vegetation are replaced by surfaces of building materials, roads and parking lots. The Bandung Basin is a dense urban area with significant land use change. The presence of the surrounding mountains provides an interesting contrast, where Bandung has a reputation as a city with a cool and comfortable climate. This study aims to comprehensively understand the dynamics of the SUHI phenomenon and its impact on the environment in the region. Spatio-temporal analysis was conducted using Landsat 8 image data from 2013 to 2021 with the help of Google Earth Engine and ArcMap applications. The results of this study show that there is an increase in building density in urban areas and conversion of agricultural land to built-up land. There is a positive relationship between building density and surface temperature with R2 values above 0.79, while forest area density and surface temperature have a negative relationship with R2 values above 0.78. These findings emphasize the importance of vegetation to reduce the Surface Urban Heat Island effect in the Bandung Basin and the need for green space planning text |

Surface Urban Heat Island (SUHI) is a phenomenon that occurs when the air
temperature in urban areas is significantly higher than the surrounding rural areas.
One of the main contributing factors is intensive land use, where green spaces and
natural vegetation are replaced by surfaces of building materials, roads and
parking lots. The Bandung Basin is a dense urban area with significant land use
change. The presence of the surrounding mountains provides an interesting
contrast, where Bandung has a reputation as a city with a cool and comfortable
climate. This study aims to comprehensively understand the dynamics of the SUHI
phenomenon and its impact on the environment in the region. Spatio-temporal
analysis was conducted using Landsat 8 image data from 2013 to 2021 with the
help of Google Earth Engine and ArcMap applications. The results of this study
show that there is an increase in building density in urban areas and conversion of
agricultural land to built-up land. There is a positive relationship between building
density and surface temperature with R2 values above 0.79, while forest area
density and surface temperature have a negative relationship with R2 values above
0.78. These findings emphasize the importance of vegetation to reduce the Surface
Urban Heat Island effect in the Bandung Basin and the need for green space
