Summary: | Transmigration shapes the history of a culture through a process of socio-cultural change resulting from the encounter of different community groups, particularly in cultural aspects that allow for cultural mixing. Dusun Balitung is a settlement of Balinese transmigrants on Belitung Island, established through the transmigration program in 1990. The inter-ethnic relations that have occurred over 34 years have resulted in a cultural system that is a blend of Balinese culture and Malay-Belitung culture. The expression of this cultural system in Dusun Balitung is manifested in architectural works. The settlement and architecture of the Balinese transmigrant community in Dusun Balitung represent the physical and non-physical manifestations of this cultural system. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The aim of this research is to identify the manifestation of the cultural mixing of Balinese and Malay cultures in the settlement and architecture of the Balinese transmigrant community in Dusun Balitung, and to reveal the forms of cultural mixing in the settlement and architecture of the Balinese transmigrant community in Dusun Balitung. The form of cultural mixing is determined based on the dominance of one architectural style. There are three possible forms of cultural mixing in architecture: adaptation, adoption, and synergy. The results of this study indicate that the form of cultural mixing in the settlement and architecture of the Balinese transmigrant community in Dusun Balitung is adaptation. This is indicated by the dominance of Traditional Balinese Architecture in settlements, houses, and public buildings. |
