INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/83505 The background of this work is that mindfulness can create health, calm, insight and happiness. The formulation of the problem is, “How to realize awareness through the art work?” The title of the author's concept for the art work is Crowded Empty Space, in a meditative mind. A Crowded Empty Space in author’s definition is the presence of consciousness and thoughts. Space is human consciousness, a place where many thoughts pass back and forth every day. Empty is a condition where humans are often not aware of their consciousness, so that the thoughts that keep appearing have no meaning because they appear empty. The empty that the author describes here is a positive thing, which is the meaning of 'Whole' itself, where humans are not controlled by their thoughts but humans control their thoughts. A Crowded Empty Space depicts the author's daily life where through this project the author discovers meditative points of calm (samatha) and light (vipassana), namely the Buddha's theory of true mindfulness which is applied to art therapeutic methods, and autotelic art. This work applies 3 art theories, namely art as a symbol and art as a sign, and Surrealism. The method used systematically is the method from Hawkins' creative process flow, where there are 3 stages, namely getting inspiration (ideas), then designing and finally realizing the work of art. The conclusion of this work and creation process is to work deeply within oneself, through life's questions, obtaining messages from all the moments that occur. The meditative state brings calm and clear thoughts, so that you know yourself more deeply and are happy after creating artwork. In the final result of the work, it is hoped that it will also be able to invite viewers of the work to feel this conscious awareness by observing and thinking. The meaning of mindfulness here is that people can appreciate the work, but still have the freedom to make interpretations according to their experience and knowledge. The most important thing is to get the inside, that it is always there. the meaning behind small, everyday things. text
