Summary: | In their lifetime, humans will be constantly taking information from things
encountered in daily basis. Naturally this is how the brain works which is
intended to keep humans to keep existing and safe from dangers. Apart from these
functions, humans also consciously search for and store information that is
interesting to them. Either way, all information will always be stored by the
brain’s complex memory system which actively distributes them to the surface so
that it can be useful in the later days. As technology develops, humans are starting
to use digital devices to help obtain information—including carrying out their
social lives, namely through social media platforms. Easy access to a vast and
unlimited flow of information has made humans accustomed to the rapid
distribution of data into memory without any further processing. One phenomena
that is popular, especially on social media, is FOMO (Fear of Missing Out),
which is a fear that someone feels if they miss an experience that other people
have first. The fact that humans have become accustomed to this situation aroused
the author's interest in creating a work of art using a subversive posterinfographic
medium which refers to a representation of how the working memory
system works that is no longer efficient. Visual concepts will follow the structure
of the human memory system according to the author's understanding. The
medium of the work, namely a poster subversion of infographics, was chosen with
the aim of disrupting the cycle of habits related to human dependence on digital
devices today.
