This collaboration is not just about engaging participants and knowledge from the design domain, but also from the local craftsmanship domain. Due to the value of tradition and culture, the craftsmanship domain possesses diverse and valuable creative knowledge, such as their creative knowledge reflected in the use of local craftsmanship terms. The use of specific language and terms can represent knowledge, traditional values, individual identities, and bridge mental imagery between individuals that can influence the design process. Therefore, understanding local language and terms in crafts becomes crucial in the effective collaboration process between craftspeople and designers. Through the method of design ethnography, this research was conducted with participant observation of the craft process and interviews with craftspeople at Pancaniti Keramik. This research was conducted to analyze how the use of local craft terms can influence the craftsperson’s crafts making process and the abundance of values that influence the use of these local craft terms. From the collected local craft terms, the researcher found that most of the local craft terms are also used in their daily activities. However, there are also some common terms that are derived and are borrowed terms from foreign languages. The flexibility, adaptability, and improvisation, as well as the close relationship between craftspeople in their local crafts working environment, are evident from the use of these local craft terms. The use of local craftmanship terms can also create a safe space and social equality between individuals in the collaboration process of craftspeople and designers. This understanding can help designers to determine the approach to, facilitate the exchange of knowledge and to enrich ideas in the collaboration process with craftspeople. In addition, the researcher suggests designers to make an effort to preserve and revitalize the traditional values of local crafts, namely by collecting and identifying values in local craft terms in Indonesia. text
