Description
Summary:The increasing amount of plastic waste causes various problems. So far, unused plastic waste has only been dumped on the ground and left to decompose. On the other hand, air pollution currently has a particle size of PM2.5. This study will show a method of recycling plastic waste into fiber that functions to filter the air to free it from small dust particles. The material used in this study is High-Impact Polystyrene (HIPS). The fiber production method that is often used is electrospinning. However, this method takes longer to produce fiber. The new method, solution-blowspinning, offers a faster fiber production speed than the electric spinneret method. The study aims to compare the two fiber production methods in terms of morphology, mechanical properties, and work efficiency of the fiber membrane produced and parameters that affect fiber diameter. From the study, it was obtained that in the electric electrospinning, the concentration, voltage, and solution flow rate parameters affect the diameter of the fiber produced. For the solution-blowspinning, it was obtained that the concentration and air flow rate parameters affect the diameter of the fiber produced. The contact angle test results showed that the solution-blowspinning membrane was more hydrophobic than the electrospinning membrane. The efficiency of the electrospinning membrane was better than the solution-blowspinning membrane. However, the pressure drop of the solution-blowspinning membrane was better than the electrospinning membrane.
