Description
Summary:Dulmuluk is one of the traditional theater from Palembang which is increasingly declining in popularity due to the rise of other types of entertainment that have emerged along with technological developments. The number of artist groups performing Dulmuluk is decreasing so many young people have never watched or even known about Dulmuluk. In the initial survey, most Palembang teenagers who had watched Dulmuluk said that they watched it through other media such as television and online platforms. Palembang teenagers also like to watch animation online via smartphones and most of them watch it every day. This study aims to design an animated adaptation of Dulmuluk for teenagers aged 13-15 years in Palembang. The research stages were carried out by collecting related literature, distributing questionnaires, interviewing experts, and comparative analysis of similar animated works. Data analysis used SWOT analysis. The animation design method consists of pre-production, production, and postproduction stages. The initial survey showed that teenagers in Palembang are interested in animation with a Japanese animation visual style, comedy genre, modern character costumes, and pastel colors. The majority of respondents stated that the story and characters are the two main factors that make them like watching an animation so the elements of Dulmuluk that have the potential to be adapted into animation are the story and characters of Dulmuluk. The results of interviews with Dulmuluk experts stated that the main element in Dulmuluk is poetry because the story and dialogue in Dulmuluk theater are taken from Abdul Muluk's Poetry. This is also applied to the writing of the animation scenario 'Dhulmuluk'. The animation story structure uses a Three-Act Structure with a nonlinear storyline. Character designs are designed based on archetype, somatotype, and color theory. The animated video adaptation of Dulmuluk entitled 'Dhulmuluk' with a duration of around 9 minutes was uploaded to YouTube and distributed to teenagers in Palembang. The trial results showed that the animated adaptation of 'Dulmuluk' was in accordance with the preferences of teenagers in Palembang. The majority of respondents said they were interested in knowing about or watching Dulmuluk Theater after watching the animation 'Dhulmuluk'. This proves that the adaptation of local arts and culture through new media can attract the younger generation's interest in recognizing local culture.
