Summary: | The continuous advancement of technology and the ever-growing flow of information have
significantly shifted the dynamics of life, including changes in culture, values, and social
norms in the current era. This transformation has greatly impacted the fashion industry as
an integral part of people’s appearance and lifestyle. One prominent phenomenon is the
genderless fashion trend, which reflects a significant change in the contemporary fashion
landscape. Genderless fashion broadens the perspective on gender and opens up space for
individual expression without rigid gender boundaries. The openness of early adulthood
individuals to this concept indicates a more progressive attitude, which in turn drives the
adoption and development of this trend.
Through a qualitative phenomenological research approach, this study aims to describe
how the genderless fashion trend is evolving within the unique cultural context of Indonesia
and to examine how early adulthood users understand and express their identities through
this fashion. The study analyzes and illustrates the tangible characteristics present in the
genderless fashion trend in Indonesia, based on the preferences and understanding of early
adulthood users. By employing data triangulation methods that include comparative
studies, interviews, and questionnaires, this research provides new insights into the
dynamics between personal preferences, cultural values, and social acceptance in the
context of genderless fashion among early adulthood individuals in Indonesia.
The results of this study also yielded three (3) genderless fashion designs that are
responsive and relevant based on the data analysis. These designs specifically reflect the
characteristics identified in meeting the needs, preferences, and perceptions of early
adulthood users. These findings are expected to serve as valuable guidance for designers,
academics, and fashion industry practitioners in creating apparel that aligns with current
fashion trends, particularly within the scope of genderless fashion. Additionally, this
research is expected to expand understanding and acceptance of the genderless fashion
concept in Indonesia, as well as to encourage innovation in fashion design that is relevant
to ongoing social and cultural developments. |
