Summary: | Rigid gender social constructs and patriarchal norms have limited individual selfexpression, particularly in conservative environments. Gender dynamics, as an
evolving social construct, open up space for a more inclusive understanding of
identity and self-expression. Through painting, the artist seeks to narrate
marginalized perspectives by addressing the negative stigma surrounding body
piercings in women. The series, "Tapestry of Adornment”, serves as a visual
resistance against traditional norms of beauty and identity. The close-up
technique highlighting detailed body piercings weaves a narrative of women
reclaiming bodily autonomy and celebrating freedom of expression. Grounded in
theories of representational art, the concept of Painting on Ready-Made Objects,
and feminist studies on gender stereotypes, the artwork employs brocade—a
fabric closely associated with women’s clothing—as a ready-made object. This
reveals how the materiality of everyday objects can be reinterpreted, creating
powerful symbolism related to feminine identity. Referencing artists like Illaria
Margutti, Dianna Molzan, and Sigmar Polke, and utilizing representational
realism, the series becomes a strong visual statement about the courage to be
oneself. The interplay between piercings and female subjects in this work delves
into how one's appearance influences human feelings and perceptions. Moreover,
the discourse on feminism and the representation of pierced women through
painting contributes significantly to the art discourse, fostering a more critical
understanding of female body representation in art |
