NICKEL REMOVAL WITH ADSORPTION PROCESS WITH ZEOLITE AND ACTIVATED CARBON AS ADSOBENT
Nickel is heavy metal that can be found in wastewater. Nickel has characteristics that can be harmful to environment and human health. Therefore, before nickel-containing wastewater is discharged to environment, wastewater treatment to remove nickel needs to be conducted. One of many methods that...

Nickel has characteristics that can be harmful to environment and human health. Therefore, before nickel-containing wastewater is discharged to environment, wastewater treatment to remove nickel needs to be conducted. One of many methods that can be used in wastewater treatment plan to remove nickel is adsorption. Adsorption process occurs due to interaction between adsorbent and adsorbate. In this experiment, adsorbent that is going to be used are zeolite and granulated activated carbon and adsorbate that is going to be used is NiSO4 solution. The results showed that zeolite adsorbents has greater removal efficiency when compared to activated carbon adsorbents for NiSO4 solutions with concentrations of 15 mg/L and 20 mg/L while activated carbon adsorbents has greater allowance efficiency when compared to zeolite adsorbents for NiSO4 solution with concentrations of 15 mg/L. The isotherm curve of the adsorption process from this study is included in type III isothermal curve for both types of adsorbents and the nickel adsorption capacity with zeolite adsorbents has a greater value when compared to activated carbon adsorbents for every observation time. text |
