INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/84160 Gum rosin is one of the non-wood forest products obtained from the resin tapping of pine trees. With a production of 65,170 tons per year, Indonesia ranks third as the largest exporter of gum rosin in the world. However, currently, the majority of domestic gum rosin production is only sold as raw material overseas, resulting in low added value. One form of effort to increase the added value of gum rosin is through processing into finished goods. One example of gum rosin utilization is as adhesives. In the adhesive industry, rosin is used as a tackifier, which serves to enhance tackiness. However, there are limitations in using gum rosin as a tackifier, such as being prone to oxidation and a high melting point of 78–82°C. To improve the properties of gum rosin as a tackifier, a modification process will be carried out, consisting of esterification reaction with glycerol, fortification reaction using maleic anhydride, and further esterification with PEG 400. This research was carried out with the aim of obtaining the procedure, adhesive composition of modified Gondorukem tackifier by varying the components in the adhesive in the form of tackifier from modified Gondorukem, water solvent, and natural latex elastomer, as well as adhesive attachment substrates for wood, paper, plastic and aluminum. The resulting adhesive product is then applied as a wet and dry product. The quality of adhesives applied wet is determined by carrying out maximum load tests (tensile strength), minimum drying time tests, and bonding time tests. Meanwhile, adhesive products that are applied dry in the form of pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) are determined for quality through the 180° peel tack test. The resulting adhesive product with modified rosin tackifier will be compared with commercial adhesives. text
