Meanwhile, only 1.28% of households are connected to WWTP. The rest mostly use on site technology in the form of septic tanks. Currently, there are 221 FSTPs in Indonesia (Ditjen Cipta Karya, 2023). However, less than 10% of the total are running optimally (Putri & Hermana, 2015). Therefore, there is still potential pollution from open defecation activities and untreated faecal sludge. This study aims to obtain data on the pollutant load factors of sludge in the Bandung City. The estimated pollutant load from households without a WWTP is calculated by multiplying the total population by the pollutant load factor. With a 95% confidence level and a 10% error rate, 42 fecal sludge samples were collected from septic tanks that meet safe sanitation access criteria, i.e., septic tanks that were desludged at least once in the last five years. From the laboratory test results, the pollution load factors were found to be 504.5 grams TSS/person/day, 65.2 grams BOD/person/day, 325.1 grams COD/person/day, and 4 grams NH3/person/day. The Spearman Rank test showed that there was no correlation between the septic tank desludging period with either BOD or ammonia pollutant load factors. However, a strong positive correlation was found between the septic tank desludging period with both COD and TSS pollutant load factors. text |
